Who’s Who Recognizes SUNY Canton Sister
The 2004 edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers recognized Barbara St. Andrews, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet and an Educational Opportunity Partnership (EOP) Senior Counselor at SUNY Canton.
Sister Barbara is the daughter of the late Margaret and Neil J. St. Andrews, Sr. of Canton, who received her bachelor and master degrees in Education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany. She also obtained Certification in Administration from SUNY Potsda
She is a member of the Latham-based Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She has taught and was principal for several elementary schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses. In 1990, she began working with SUNY Canton as a Reading and Writing Coordinator. In 1995, she began working with the EOP Office to help educationally and financially disadvantaged students access a complete college education.
She is now involved with many different SUNY Canton organizations, including the Character Development Committee, the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society, and the Recognition and Awards Committee. She is also looking forward to the Fall 2005 semester at SUNY Canton, when she will have the chance to work with Sister Bethany Fitzgerald and other staff to create the College's new Peace Garden.
Outside of the College, Sister Barbara is a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Raphael's Church, Heuvelton, and is a Secretary on the Executive Board of the Ogdensburg' Diocese's Council of Religious. She also is a member of the Ogdensburg community singing groups "Heart to Heart" and "Showtime." In her spare time, she enjoys music, reading, cross-country skiing, camping, and swimming.
