SUNY Canton Honors Local Businesswoman
as 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year

SUNY Canton has honored Canton businesswoman Sylvia Kingston, a 1978 alumna, as the 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year.
SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy and School of Business and Public Service Dean Jonathan Gueverra recently presented Kingston with the first annual award in a ceremony at Kingston's latest business venture, Swirls, an ice cream parlor and salad shop on Main St. in the village. Also on hand were Canton Mayor Robert Wells, Assemblyman Darrel Aubertine and Canton Town Supervisor David Button.
"Sylvia is a one-person economic development machine," Kennedy said. "Her efforts have helped the village of Canton in a variety of ways over the years and we are pleased to acknowledge them. We're also proud to have her as an alumna of SUNY Canton."
SUNY Canton will be marking its 100-year anniversary next year and has already begun celebrating with its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. The college is transitioning from a two-year institution to a four-year college. In addition to 25 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers eight four-year degrees with plans to double that number during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers a Masters of Business Administration in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
