A: Yes. The housing deposit is $105 and must be paid prior to selecting a room. (EOP students pay $55). Remember, this is a deposit that will go towards the cost of your room rate for next fall. If you have an extreme financial hardship, please see the Residence Life Office regarding this policy.
A: Yes. You and your friend must pay the housing deposit and go to the tables on the top floor of the Campus Center during Room Reservation on March 4th– March 8th. You will also need to bring your current roommate (who is not returning) with you, and this current roommate must sign a form stating that they are not returning to SUNY Canton in the fall semester.
A: No. The only time students will have the opportunity to get “first claim” on their current room will be during Room Reservation. At 4:00 pm on March 8th, all rooms that are still available will be free for anyone to claim at Housing Lottery on March 12th There will be no exceptions, so please make plans to pay for your housing deposit on time if you plan to keep your current room.
A: Lottery numbers will be called from lowest to highest at Housing Lottery on March 12th, so the lower your number, the better it is. Your lottery is based on your total number of credits you have earned, your current GPA, and your disciplinary history. The more credits, higher GPA and less disciplinary history you have, the better (or lower) the lottery number you will have. Students with a lottery number of 1-250 will go through at 5 pm, 251-500 at 6 pm and so forth. Pay attention to your lottery number and time.
A: Yes. We allow every student the opportunity to “pull” a friend up with them during Housing Lottery if they choose to do so as long as the person you are pulling in has an overall GPA of 2.0 and above, and no significant discipline. Please pick your fall semester roommates carefully. Both of you will stand in line and select a room together using the lower lottery number between the two of you. However, please remember that BOTH roommates must have their $105 (or $55) housing deposits paid prior to selecting your room.
A: During this process, we view suites as one room. In other words, if four friends would like to live in a suite with each other, the person with the lowest lottery number out of the four of you can “pull” the other three students up with them as long as each person has a 2.0 overall GPA or above, and no significant disciplinary history. If you are unsure about the status of each person, there will be an RD with the information, and those students can speak to that RD to double check their status. This gives your group of friends the opportunity to claim one suite all at once, and also reduces the chance of suites being left with “random” open spaces. Please remember that ALL suite occupants must have their $105 (or $55) housing deposits paid before the suite can be reserved.
A: No. Once you have selected your room for Housing Lottery/ Reserved your room, you will not be able to change it. Please choose where / who you are living with wisely. Changes will only be made based on the severity of the issue and the decision of the Residence Life Office.
A: Yes. First of all, if you do not participate in Room Reservation or Housing Lottery, there is no guarantee you will have on-campus housing for the fall semester. Every student MUST pay the housing deposit if they plan to live on campus, even if they do not pick a specific room - no exceptions. If you don’t get housing and don’t want to be on the wait list we can refund the housing deposit.
