Veterinary Services Management - Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the B. Tech degree in Veterinary Services Management students will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively with clientele and team members of a veterinary facility through oral communication and written documents as well as through electronic media.
  • Utilize management and organizational skills to assume a leadership role in the workplace.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise the training and evaluation of veterinary facility employees
  • Research, plan, and manage the acquisition and maintenance of veterinary facility inventory, equipment, and infrastructure
  • Manage the financial records of a veterinary facility, develop financial reports and budgets
  • Meet a veterinary facility’s legal obligations
  • Secure insurance for a veterinary facility and its employees, and assist clients in securing health insurance for patients
  • Create and conduct a marketing plan for a veterinary practice
  • Manage veterinary service provision in a wide variety of settings, to include:
    1. Mobile clinics
    2. Ambulatory units
    3. Emergency and specialty practice
    4. Exotic animal practice
    5. Biomedical research facilities
    6. Animal shelters and spay/neuter clinics
    7. Zoos
    8. Veterinary diagnostic laboratories
