"We are teaching leadership and management skills designed to assist students beyond the start of their jobs. Such skills allow for promotions, increased responsibility, and increased pay. This bachelor's degree allows students with a two-year degree to enhance their knowledge of the field."
— Barry Walch, Program Director

Students receive:
- Abundant personalized attention.
- The flexibility to start or continue their careers while learning.
- The ability to mold their education to their interests or needs.
- The ability to directly apply theory and skills to their work environments.
Career Networks
If you mention a funeral home in New York State, Barry Walch probably knows it. In fact, better than one out of every four funeral directors gained their education and license from SUNY Canton. Through continuing contact with this network of alumni, Walch is able to help students benefit from professional knowledge and in some cases locate future careers.
Putting it All Online
Many of the courses in the final two years of this degree are online. Additionally, part of this career-driven program allows students to develop or improve websites for their respective funeral homes.
Four-year Prospects
- Many funeral firms and corporations seek managers and administrators with experience and bachelor's degrees.
- Demand for employees far exceeds supply.
Confidence and Enthusiasm Renewal
This program helps students gain the abilities to advance their careers and boost their enthusiasm for their jobs.
Be Prepared
Recent changes to both state and national regulations have created a new set of standards for funeral directors, necessitating that funeral directors acquire advanced education in mass casualty management and public health and disaster management.
Both Assistant Professor Barry Walch and Assistant Professor Donna Robinson-Bazinet are former funeral directors and members of county and state Funeral Directors Associations.
Mrs. Robinson-Bazinet is a former St. Lawrence County coroner.
