University Police Personnel Profiles

John A. Kaplan, Chief of University Police

John has been a member of SUNY Canton as Chief since 2013. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam class of 1982. John served as a member of the Potsdam Village Police Department beginning in 1986 going on to serve as Chief for seven years before joining SUNY Potsdam as Chief in 2010.

Alan P. Mulkin, Deputy Chief of University Police

Alan has been a member of the University Police as Deputy Chief since March of 2013. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam class of 1996 and is also a graduate of 203rd session of the FBI National Academy. Alan served as a member of the Canton Village Police Department beginning in 1990 going on to serve as Chief for eighteen years before joining SUNY Canton.

Brian E. Kurish, Lieutenant

Lt. Kurish has been a member of the department since 1999. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Potsdam. Lt. Kurish holds specialized certification as a General Topics Instructor (IDC), CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor, Crime Prevention, Defensive Driving Instructor and as a Field Training Officer.

Brian J. Perry, Officer

Officer Perry has been a member of the department since 1999. He received his Associates Degree from SUNY Canton. Officer Perry holds specialized certification as a Firearms Instructor, Armorer, General Topics Instructor (IDC) and as a Field Training Officer.

Dale W. Hutchins, Officer

Officer Hutchins has been a member if the department since 2004. He received his Associates Degree from SUNY Morrisville.

Tammy J. LaPage-Avery, Officer

Officer LaPage-Avery has been a member of the department since 2008. She received her Associates Degree from SUNY Canton and her Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Potsdam. Officer LaPage-Avery holds specialized certification as an Evidence Technician.

Seth A. Filiatrault, Officer

Officer Filiatrault has been a member of the department since 2011. He received his Associates Degree from Jefferson Community College.

Daniel V. Callahan, Officer

Officer Callahan has been a member of the department since 2011. He received his Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Potsdam.

Tyler R. Moulton, Officer

Officer Moulton has been a member of the department since 2011. He received his bachelor's Degree from the University at Buffalo.

David J. Cummings, Officer

Officer Cummings has been a member of the department since 2013.  He received his Associates Degree from Mohawk Valley Community College and his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY IT (Utica).

Larre A. Harris, Jr., Officer

Officer Harris has been a member of the department since 2013.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Utica College and his Master of Science/Administration from the University of Phoenix.

Melissa M. Hough, Department Secretary

Ms. Hough has been a member of the department since 2013. She received her Associates Degree from Central City Business Institute.
