Text Box: It is a brisk and clear morning here in Canton. Still, the sun is warm and the trees are budding, demonstrating further proof that spring is here at last. Here in the office, we continue to plan for the summer. Cyndi Lauzon has made a smooth transition as a Counselor and she has joined with Nathan and Amanda to lead our new student recruitment efforts. Interest in Upward Bound seems to be stronger than ever. Though we have only 12 seniors graduating this year, we have more than 80 applicants for new student roster spots. Let’s hope they bring a lot of enthusiasm with them!

We continue to recruit and hire quality summer teachers and residential staff as well. We have completed most interviews though we have a bit of work ahead of us here. The upcoming Senior Trip, Incentive Trip, and Regents Review events also hold our attention. We hope to see many of you at these activities. Your participation inspires us to work harder on your behalf.

As I’m sure you’ll be reading this newsletter while on your Spring Break, I hope you will take a moment and reflect on your progress over the course of the year. How have you done in your efforts toward your academic goal(s)? Have you been prioritizing your time according to your college and career plans? Upon your return to school, you will have about ten weeks to wrap up the year. I encourage you to make a strong push toward academic success. Whether “success” means avoiding summer school, putting your finishing touches on a straight “A” average in a college-prep curriculum, or something in between, bear in mind that you’ll be in the stretch run. Finish the year well and make yourself proud!
