Senior Bulletin

NOVEMBER 2004

Hey Seniors-

Remember When?

Do you remember why you joined the Upward Bound Program way back when we came to your school?  The teachers and guidance folks at your school recommended you for Upward Bound and knew that you were college material.  We accepted you as college bound students that wanted help to find the best possible college for you and prepare you for it.  Now it’s your turn to take the lead for us to follow.

That includes:

· Working hard in all of your classes until graduation day!  Your senior year does count!

· Applying to prospective colleges (keep copies of everything)

· Obtaining your PIN number for the FAFSA (explained fully in the last Senior Bulletin)

· Having taken the college entrance exam (SAT or ACT)

· Respecting yourself to put your hard work to the test by taking advantage of the      opportunity you’ve afforded yourselves

Safety Colleges verses Reach Colleges

The term “safety school” refers to a college that you are certain to be accepted to as opposed to a college you are not quite sure will admit you, “Reach College”.  We encourage you to apply to a wide variety of colleges to provide choices when the time comes to make a decision.

Call Us

In this time of staff transition, we extend our hopes you’ll call us to update us on your status with the college application process.  Now is the time to inquire about last minute concerns or barriers you may be facing to get that application processed in a timely manner.  You’re in the process of making your college dreams come true.  We’d love to hear from you in the office.  If you call, we’ll call you right back so the dime is on us!  Come on, it’ll only take a minute.  Michele and I promise not to talk too long!

Enclosed Material

We’ve enclosed a copy of “Affording College” for you to use at your discretion.  Included is     important information on financial aid and a list of NY’s 100+ private colleges at your fingertips.

Until We See You Again,

Amanda, Nate, & Michele
