Chelsy Locke

Chelsy Locke of Tupper Lake found herself, lifelong friends, and family at SUNY Canton.

She selected the Healthcare Management major so that she can help improve quality care and patient safety in hospital and nursing home settings. “I originally came here for Nursing but wanted to do more for residents and patients,” she said.

Chelsy said her first year was tough. During that year, she also had the best college experiences by meeting so many amazing people and some of her lifelong best friends whom she calls family.

“The best SUNY Canton story I have is meeting friends in Chaney and in classes,” she said. “The biggest thing I've learned since coming here is there is no such thing as having too many friends. I learned that your closest friends can be your roommates and that family isn't just blood-related.”

Chelsy’s favorite instructors are Instructor Jennie H. Flanagan and Associate Professor Marela Fiacco, both of whom have helped her many times. “I have really looked up to them as mentors,” she said.

Chelsy is planning to complete an internship next year to get a head start on her career.
