Great majors lead to great careers at SUNY Canton. Xavier Collins from Fort Covington is a recent graduate who now works at the Information Services Help Desk.

"I was originally a criminal justice major who switched to Cybersecurity,” Xavier said. “I was then recommended as a student worker for the Help Desk and worked my way into a nice start to my career.”

During Xavier's second semester, he worked as a Resident Assistant and a code coordinator. "This allowed me to gather experience in different areas,” he said. Not only in my major, but in my work life.”

He said it was hard to select an individual favorite instructor, and that Associate Professor Tatsuhito Koya and Senior Lecturer Minhua Wang were both very influential.

The biggest thing Xavier has learned since coming to SUNY Canton is to focus on his goals and to let go of distractions.

“My favorite thing about living on campus was how convenient everything was to go to,” he said. "I was in walking distance of a gym and a dining center with already-made food when I showed up.”

Xavier graduated in December of 2024 and will be walking in May 2025. He plans to continue working at SUNY Canton.
