Sierra Pabo

Sierra Pabo

Sierra Pabo from San Jose, California, came to SUNY Canton because of the highly regarded nursing program and the opportunity to continue playing basketball.

“The nursing program is very hands-on, letting us practice skills through labs, simulations, and clinicals,” she said. “These experiences have built my confidence and helped me apply what I’ve learned in real-life situations. Practicing in a controlled setting before working with patients has made a huge difference, and it’s what I value most about the program.”

When asked about her favorite class, Sierra said she enjoys all her nursing classes. “All the instructors want us to succeed, and they are willing to help us in making sure we understand what we are learning,” she said. “They do an amazing job creating a supportive environment and making sure we feel confident and prepared before we are in the nursing field by ourselves.”

She was one of just two players to start all 27 games for the Roos during the 2024-25 season, leading the team and ranking second in the SUNYAC with 34.3 minutes per game. She finished second on the roster with 12.6 points per game, 77 assists, and 29 steals, shooting 42% from the field, 28% from three, and 84% at the line. Her season included a standout 27-point, six-assist performance that tied her career highs.

"Balancing basketball and nursing hasn't always been easy, but it’s taught me to push myself and manage my time," she said. "This experience has kept me focused, provided a great support system, and shaped who I am. My coaches and teammates have become like family."

After graduating in May 2027, she plans to return home and work as an emergency room nurse.
