
Debbie Bartosova
Debbie Bartosova is getting a third degree from SUNY Canton. Originally from the Czech Republic, Debbie now resides in Canton while she finishes an associate degree in the HVAC program. She previously earned an associate and a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science Technology and Veterinary Technology.
“SUNY Canton chose me,” Debbie said. “I just decided to stay because I really like it here.”
She said she originally enrolled as a student athlete and didn’t really know what she wanted to do academically.
“I switched from Liberal Arts to the Veterinary Science Technology program before coming to SUNY Canton, and it was the best decision I have ever made,” she said. “The program is highly selective and hardcore. It made me focus on my academics whether I wanted to or not.”
Debbie is one of a few women enrolled in SUNY Canton’s trades programs. She was attracted to HVAC for its career potential after graduation. Her favorite classes are Refrigeration I and Domestic and Commercial Heating II. Her favorite college administrator is Dean Michael Newton of the Canino School of Engineering Technology.
She has a very full plate during her senior year. In addition to working as a Veterinary Technician at Urgent Veterinary Care in Auburn. She is a Senior Student ambassador with the Office of Admissions, a Tutor, and a Jump Start Peer Mentor. “I am also trying to help my current employer with building a surgical suit with my HVAC knowledge,” she said.
After she graduates in May, she plans to pursue a career with an international company and help design HVAC systems.
