Kenneth Lakin III from the Bronx chose SUNY Canton because a handwritten notecard caught his attention. He is a senior in the Business Management program.

“Coming here was like finding a diamond in a hailstorm,” he said. “As an ambassador, we write handwritten notecards to applicants. As a prospective student myself, I thought it was cool to get something handwritten rather than the usual print font. Now I have been writing those same notecards for the past four years.”

In addition to being a student ambassador, Kenneth is also the President of Investment Club, President of Gamma Sigma Zeta Fraternity Inc., Vice President of the College Association Board, Vice President of Brother 2 Brother, and a former Vice President of the Greek Council. He has worked consistently as a peer mentor for TRiO Student Support Services. Most recently, he’s been working as a Marketing Intern for Dining Services.

His favorite staff members are Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Greek Affairs Chelsea DeGroat, and Student Services and Mailroom Clerk Stephen Murray. He said his favorite faculty member is Criminal Justice Assistant Professor Charles Robinson.

After graduating in December 2026, he plans to immerse himself in the business world, becoming an entrepreneur and starting his own business. Additionally, he wants to take his passion for video editing and production to continue creating his own content.

“I used this school as a place to facilitate the skills and experiences I’d need later on in life,” he said. “College is exactly what you make of it, and I tried to maximize my time here.”
