Sydney Dunn

Sydney Dunn of East Meadow was unsure about the cold weather in the North Country, but when she set foot on campus, she felt so welcomed. She is a Veterinary Technology Major and captain of the women’s lacrosse team.

She chose her major because she wants to make a difference in the animal welfare community by helping and educating others on how to improve the lives of their pets and other animals.

When asked about unique experiences she has had in her major, Sydney said there were many. “For starters, we have an on-campus facility that has everything you can think of from a treatment room, a surgery suite, kennels for dogs, cats, and other laboratory animals, a radiology room, and more,” she said. “From the day you start this major, you are introduced to what your life will look like after you get your license. Another unique thing about my program is that by the end of your undergraduate degree, you are able to take your Veterinary Technology License Exam, and you can complete all your prerequisites to continue to Veterinary School if you wish to do so.”

Sydney’s favorite staff members are women’s lacrosse head coach Adam Todd and Assistant Professor Dr. Wendy Kuceyeski. She describes Coach Todd as one of the best mentors she has ever met: “Yes, he is a coach when needed, but at the end of the day, he is our number one supporter, who never fails to be there for anything and everything.”

After she graduates in May 2027, she plans to continue her education and go to Veterinary School with the ultimate goal of getting her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
