Brandon O’Shea from Canton took on a challenge in 2025, climbing 110 flights of stairs in his full turnout gear to honor the lives lost on 9/11. The Criminal and Forensic Investigation major is climbing the steps again this year.
“My thoughts going into the tribute is to help people remember the day and how significant it was to our country,” he said. “My father was sent down after the 9/11 attacks, and he is one of the main reasons I decided to do the stair climb.”
Brandon’s commitment to serving others extends beyond his yearly tradition.
“Being a volunteer firefighter and working for the rescue squad is an amazing way to give back and help the community that raised me,” he said. “There have definitely been tough days, but there are also good days that remind me why I do it.”
His favorite class is Introduction to Forensic Investigation, where he has gained hands-on experience with techniques such as lifting fingerprints from different surfaces.
Brandon is also the captain of the College’s club hockey team and said his coach, Pat Martin, is an inspiration. “He is always willing to help the team whenever we need it,” he said.
He hopes to become a New York State Trooper when he graduates in May 2028.
