Korbin Lovejoy
Korbin Lovejoy of Lansing came to SUNY Canton for its affordability and the hands-on opportunities in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program.
He also came to play baseball, although his plans almost didn’t happen.
“Before my first semester of college, I injured my hand on a circular saw, which led me to take a semester off for recovery,” he recalled. “I did not think I was going to be able to play again.”
Luckily for Korbin, surgeons repaired the damage, and he is now a starting catcher for the Roos and has just been named captain. The team is heading to play two exhibition matches on Saturday, Oct. 3.
During his freshman year, he appeared in 22 games, making 20 starts. He recorded a .355 batting average with 27 hits, nine runs, four doubles, one triple and 11 RBIs across 76 at-bats. Defensively, he recorded 49 putouts and 12 assists on 65 chances for a .938 fielding percentage.
He said his favorite class is Electricity for Trades Lab. “I get to learn and experience the hands-on work I will be doing in the future,” he said.
After graduation in May 2029, he plans to become an electrician.
