Honors Convocation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

At the Honors Convocation you do not need to speak as you cross the stage

The format is very similar to high school graduation, in that you walk across the stage, accept the award, shake hands, and keep going! You will receive a reader card at the ceremony which you will fill out with your name and program for the reader to read as you cross the stage.

You will receive an empty certificate folder as you cross stage.

Please go to the table that is set up at the back or side of the field house to pick up your certificate. If you do not pick it up, it will be available for pickup on campus for a few days. The day after the ceremony an email will be sent out to all students who did not pick up their certificate. The email will contain information about when and where to pick up the certificates on campus. If an award is not claimed, it will be mailed home to your permanent address.

Guests are welcome!

There is no limit to the number of guests who may come, from on-campus or off-campus (friends, family, and fellow students are all welcome to attend). There are no tickets or entry fees. Students receiving awards will sit in one section of rows, and guests will sit in another section, again, similar to graduation. The ceremony itself is approximately an hour long.

There is assigned seating for students who are receiving awards.

This is so that we can ensure that you are acknowledged along with the other students from your school (Business and Liberal Arts, Engineering Technology, or Science, Health and Criminal Justice). We highly encourage students to arrive a minimum of 20 minutes prior to the beginning of the ceremony so that the ushers are able to assist you in finding your seat before the ceremony starts. When you arrive at the field house, please see one of the School Ushers (who will be standing in the center of the middle aisle with lists) to obtain the location of your seat.

Dress for the Convocation should be casual-professional.

You do not need to dress formally, however as you will be accepting your award(s) in front of our esteemed faculty and guests at this significant college ceremony, it is preferred that our honored students dress nicely.

If you are unable to attend at the last minute, we will miss you at the ceremony, but you will still receive your award.

The day after the ceremony an email will be sent out to all students who were not in attendance. The email will contain information about when and where to pick up the certificates on campus. If an award is not claimed, it will be mailed home to your permanent address.
