EVERYONE HAS A PLACE AT SUNY CANTON

At SUNY Canton, it is our priority to provide our students, faculty, and staff accessible experiences. In our learning environments, we pay special attention to the learning needs of our entire campus community. Here are some helpful resources to explore.

Rules and Tools

The Law

Digital accessibility is explored and regulated in the following legislature, listed here from the newest to the oldest:

Title II - Updated regulations for U.S. Department of Justice Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) establish requirements for making accessible the services, programs, and activities offered by State and local government entities to the public through the web and mobile applications by April 2026.
The rule specifies that all digital content must adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. Please see Fact Sheet: New Rule on the Accessibility of Web Content and Mobile Apps for a summary of the rule, and How to Meet WCAG (Quick Reference) for a detailed explanation of sufficient techniques.

American with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires that State and local governments give people with disabilities an equal opportunity to benefit from all of their programs, services, and activities (e.g. public education, employment, transportation, recreation, health care, social services, courts, voting, and town meetings).

Rehabilitation Act of 1973, section 504 stipulates that “No qualified individual with a disability in the United States shall be excluded from, denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under” any program or activity that receives Federal financial assistance.
