Jabali Afrika to Perform at SUNY Canton, March 28

SUNY Canton proudly presents the cultural music of Jabali Afrika, a Kenyan band that performs a mixture of African rhythms.

Jabali Afrika will take the stage at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the Kingston Theater. The college cordially invites the community and students from neighboring colleges to this free event.

They played during 1996 H.O.R.D.E. festival alongside performers like Lenny Kravitz, Rusted Root, King Crimson, and the Dave Matthews Band. The group has also made appearances in Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood, Good Morning America, BET and MTV, as well as many other domestic and international television programs.

The multi-talented musicians have gained great acclaim in Africa and Europe. They were featured on a CNN when they headlined the African Heritage Festival Tour in Germany and Austria.

The band developed from five former members of the Kenya National Theatre Dance Troupe. The musicians would meet a on a large rock to discuss their future careers, hence the name Jabali, which means rock in Kenyan.
