SUNY Canton’s Academic Support Services department recently received a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The funding will be used for the Student Support Services (SSS) program, a federally-funded TRiO program that works with over 200 SUNY Canton students annually.
“The program contributes in a major way to the retention efforts of SUNY Canton,” said Patricia M. Cassara, director of academic support services and the TRiO SSS program. “Students within the program are followed throughout their college career. We help students overcome obstacles and reach their educational goals, we provide academic support, and we encourage them to be the best student they can be.”
The SSS program provides a number of services including:
- information and resources to enhance collegiate success;
- professional tutoring;
- academic counseling; and
- scholarship opportunities.
In addition, the TRiO SSS Program offers the opportunity to belong to Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society.
