Description of Duties

Under the supervision of the Dining Management, the Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for china, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, pots and pans, etc., using machine and manual cleaning methods. This position also ensures the dishwashing area is maintained as a clean, safe and sanitary facility.

Principal Duties

  1. Sort and rinse dirty dishes, glass, tableware and other cooking utensils and place them in racks to send through dish machine.
  2. Sort and stack clean dishes. Rewash soiled dishes. Return clean dishes to proper storage areas.
  3. Set up or break down dishwashing area.
  4. Fill/empty soak tubs with cleaning/sanitizing solutions.
  5. Wipe up any spills to ensure kitchen floors remain dry. Sweep/mop floors as necessary.
  6. Notify manager any time dish machine wash or rinse cycle falls below safety standard temperatures.
  7. Wash hands before touching clean dishes.
  8. Maintain dish machine’s daily routine and de-lime machine once a week.
  9. Soak coffee cups in bleach solutions once a week.

Lesser Duties

  1. Serves on committees as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a kitchen environment. This role routinely uses sinks and dishwashers and tools to clean kitchen appliances. Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot water, potentially slippery floors, garbage disposals and cleaning chemicals.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop or kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.

Required Education

  1. High school diploma.
  2. Must be NRA ServSafe certified within one year of employment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Dishwashing experience is preferred.

Position Type and Expected Schedule

Monday 1:30pm-9:00pm, Tuesday & Wednesday 8:00am-3:30pm, Friday 1:30pm-9:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-8:30pm

This is a full-time seasonal position (based on the academic year).
