Description of Duties

The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton seeks to hire an Academic Advisor to join the ACE/ASAP Replication team on our campus. ACE/ASAP is designed to increase timely graduation rates by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ACE/ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, small class size, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career readiness skills. Financial incentives include tuition waivers, yearly textbook assistance, and living stipends for students.

The ACE/ASAP advisor is a member of an integrated college team providing individual academic and personal support to an assigned group of students through the program.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers comprehensive advisement support students to an assigned group of students through degree completion.
  • Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services.
  • Conduct regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of data and notes for assigned students, recommending appropriate referrals to students.
  • Supports annual recruitment of new students into the program.
  • Organizes special events and programs for students, faculty and staff.
  • May conduct or support the delivery of student seminars on issues of importance to students.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of direct student experience, or a master’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of direct student experience.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of first-time and transfer students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other campus professionals.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to track and enter student data accurately.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and an aptitude to learn new systems.
