Dual Enrollment Teachers

To teach in the Dual Enrollment Program, instructors must meet certification requirements in their subject area to teach in the State of New York. Instructors who meet the requirements necessary to teach courses for the college will be approved to instruct dual enrolled courses during their period of commitment to the Dual Enrollment program. All dual enrollment instructors will also be required to annually participate in a dual enrollment professional development day hosted by the College.

The College is responsible for ensuring credit bearing courses meet the rigor and standards of the institution. SUNY Canton course outlines will be followed, as well as the college’s regulations pertaining to grading, submission of grades and assessment. All instructors will be expected to comply with student privacy regulations under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act as well as the college’s anti-discrimination and harassment policies as set forth in the college’s catalog. An appropriate SUNY Canton course outline will be provided for each dual enrolled course, outlining the topics, coverage, learning objectives and methods of evaluating student performance. The college will ensure the district course syllabus is reviewed and approved as comparable to a course offered by the institution.

Assessment of student learning objectives in the course will be comparable to on-campus offerings. All high school course learning objectives must be aligned to SUNY Canton course learning objectives with one assessment measure assigned to each objective. Each course will be reviewed on an assessment cycle generating a completed report form, assessment rubric, and a completed assessment for one student who met the requirements and one student who did not meet the requirements.

Grading

District faculty instructing Dual Enrollment courses will be required to submit final grades to the College’s Registrar’s Office at the end of each semester, using a specific template, to be supplied by the College. The district must assign final grades utilizing the College’s grading scale. Students who register for dual enrollment will earn college credit and will have an official SUNY Canton transcript of their course work.
