Dual Enrollment Assessment Plan

This assessment plan ensures that all Dual Enrollment courses:

  • Maintain college-level academic rigor equivalent to courses offered at SUNY Canton
  • Meet SUNY’s systemwide expectations for regular assessment of student learning
  • Comply with external standards (Middle States)

Course Approval & Instructor Qualifications

To teach in the Dual Enrollment Program, instructors must meet certification requirements in their subject area to teach in the State of New York.  Instructors who meet the requirements necessary to teach courses for the college will be approved to instruct dual enrolled courses during their period of commitment to the Dual Enrollment program, and all courses must align to an existing 100 or 200- level SUNY Canton course. General electives and special topics courses cannot be used for alignment. Review of new courses and new high school teachers occurs between September-April for the following academic year.  High school teachers must submit:

  • CV or resume
  • Course Syllabus

Once an alignment has been determined from the academic department, the SUNY Canton course outline will be provided to the high school instructor. The high school instructor must align the SUNY Canton student learning objectives with the high school learning objectives and provide the assessment tool (paper, presentation, exam, etc) for each objective.  This material will be used during the data collection & evaluation phases of assessment.  All high school syllabi will be stored by the Center for Workforce, Community & Industry Partnerships.

Data Collection & Evaluation

Dual Enrollment assessment will be conducted annually on a three-year cycle for each high school district.  At the conclusion of the assessment year cycle, all high school teachers will submit:

  • One completed report form per class (developed by SUNY Canton’s academic assessment team). The report form is used to collect aggregate student learning data from the entire course.
  • One grading rubric per assessment per class
  • One completed grading rubric highlighting a student who met the assessment requirement, and one completed grading rubric highlighting a student who did not meet the assessment requirement. Also required is the student work corresponding to the completed rubric (student who met and student who did not meet) with names redacted.

All assessment data will be analyzed and stored by the Center for Workforce, Community & Industry Partnerships.
