Description of Duties
Food Service Supervisors oversee the day-to-day operations within establishments that prepare and serve food and beverages. They ensure that all aspects of the establishment, including staff performance, food preparation, and customer service, adhere to quality and safety standards.
Principal Duties
- Oversees production of dining facilities, including but not limited to inventory and portion controls.
- Supervises dining service employees, including cooks, bakers, production and line cooks, dishwashers, dining workers, and student workers.
- Assists with employee and student scheduling to ensure coverage.
- Ensure employees follow proper sanitation and safety procedures.
- Assists with food preparation for dining center, retail, and catering, ensuring quality and quantity.
- Implements special events in coordination with management.
- Assists with employee training.
Lesser Duties
- Serves on in-house committees as assigned.
- Make recommendations as to changes and procedures in production areas.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position supervises the department's student employees and dining associates in coordination with management.
Work Environment
This job entails frequent exposure to smoke, steam, and high temperatures. There is also frequent contact/immersion of hands in water, sanitation solutions, meat products, poultry products, seafood, and produce items.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and stand. The employee must frequently reach, bend, stoop, stir, pour, carry, push, and lift objects up to 75 pounds. There is substantial repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
Required Education
- High school diploma.
- Three years or more of food service experience, preferably in a college environment.
- Possess a valid NYS driver’s license and can drive (must pass LENS approval).
- Must be NRA ServSafe certified within one year of employment.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Associate’s Degree.
- Two years experience in a supervisory role.
Position Type and Expected Schedule
This is a full-time ten-month position.
Schedule
Sunday 9:00 am-8:30 pm, Monday-Thursday 1:30 pm-8:30 pm
