Description of Duties
The Catering and Dining Specialist is responsible for executing all established standards in catering and concession production, sanitation and service.
Principal Duties
- Responsible for preparing minor food provisions and small wares set ups for catered events, waits on tables and operates concession area for scheduled events.
- Creates catering packing lists, pack carts, set up and serve for assigned events.
- Responsible for pleasant and courteous service to customers and making specific requests known to supervisor.
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of designated areas and equipment in those areas.
- Keep areas in safe working condition.
- Operates cash registers, assess systems, clerical and record keeping tasks as assigned.
- Trains catering/concession staff as needed.
- Responsible for requisitioning food supplies as needed.
- Maintains and organizes catering equipment and supplies.
Lesser Duties
- Serves on committees as assigned.
- Performs housekeeping duties.
- Informs Catering Manager of departmental needs.
- Assists with food service in other areas as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position oversees Catering and Concession staff.
Work Environment
This job entails frequent exposure to smoke, steam, high temperatures, humidity and extreme cold. There is also frequent contact/immersion of hands in water, sanitation solutions, meat products, poultry products, seafood and produce items.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to reach, bend, stoop, carry, push and lift objects up to 25 pounds. The employee must have the ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with unexpected situations.
Required Education
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of prior food service experience.
- Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and be LENS approved for driving on and off campus.
- Must be NRA ServSafe certified within one year of employment.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Prior catering or food management experience.
Position Type and Expected Schedule
Full-time and part-time hours available. This is a seasonal position (based on the academic year).
