Description of Duties
The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton invites qualified applicants for a full-time on-site Instructional Designer position in the Center for Learning Design, Innovation, and Online Instruction with an anticipated start date of February 2, 2026.
Responsibilities
The instructional designer will join a team of learning management system (LMS) administrators, instructional technologists and instructional designers in an upbeat and active department that provides LMS and instructional design support to the College community.
Reporting to the director of online learning, the successful candidate will help faculty design, develop, and evaluate courses in multiple modalities using the best practices in instructional design and development. The position will also provide professional development opportunities for faculty on accessible course development and instructional technologies.
Some of the duties include:
- Faculty support in course design and development.
- Learning management system (LMS) support.
- Training faculty, staff, and students on the use and application of software to support instruction.
- Creating instructional and training materials.
- Development, delivery, and assessment of professional development opportunities.
- Keeping current on best practices that support accessible teaching.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field – education, instructional media/technology, curriculum design, or related field.
- Knowledge of learning theories.
- Familiarity with course design.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success in online and other environments.
- Clear, concise, and friendly communication skills.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Commitment to service excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in an appropriate field from an accredited college or university (e.g., instructional design, instructional technology, adult education, multimedia development).
- 2-3 years of experience applying instructional design principles to course content.
- Experience with creating accessible content.
- Experience with faculty support and training development.
- Experience with Brightspace by D2L learning management system.
Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, and criminal background check.
