Credit Hours

A semester credit hour is granted for satisfactory completion of (1) 50-minute session of classroom instruction per week for a semester of 15 weeks. Semester credit hours are granted for various types of instruction as follows:

  1. Lecture – A semester credit hour is granted for satisfactory completion of (15) 50-minute sessions of classroom instruction.
  2. Lab/Practicum/Recitation – Forty-five 50-minute sessions of such activity would also normally earn one semester credit hour. Where such activity involves substantial outside preparation by the student, the equivalent of at least 15 periods of 100 minutes duration each will earn one semester credit hour.
  3. Independent Study – One credit for independent study will be awarded for the equivalent of (45) 50-minute sessions of student academic activity.

The following credit hour/status designations will be used for all academic purposes: Freshman 0-29, Sophomore 30-59, Junior 60-89, and Senior 90+. All credit hours must be part of a degree program offered by the College.
