Spring Blood Drive Scheduled April 20 at SUNY Canton, Virtual Appointments Available

The American Red Cross will be holding a spring blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in SUNY Canton’s Richard W. Miller Campus Center room 212. Virtual appointments are available for those unable to attend the in-person collection event.

Virtual participation is designed to include the college’s substantial online population and increase donors. The Red Cross funds scholarships based on donor participation. To schedule a virtual appointment, use SUNY Canton’s unique link through April 30 and donate at any blood drive nation-wide.

Donors are strongly encouraged to sign up in advance using the Red Cross Blood Donor mobile application, or by visiting the Red Cross website. Traditional blood and Power Red appointments are available. Masks are required at all collection locations.

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood and or platelets, neither of which can be manufactured, according to the Red Cross. The blood type most often requested is O. One donation can help save more than one life.

SUNY Canton’s previous blood drive saw 27 donors, with five individuals giving blood for the very first time. In all, the donations collected potentially saved 81 lives.
