SUNY Canton Becomes Lead Participant in New SUNY Military Tuition Rate Program
SUNY Canton was named in the SUNY Military Tuition Rate Program, a system-wide initiative that makes SUNY’s undergraduate degree and microcredential programs more affordable for active-duty service members, members of the National Guard, and members of the Reserves.
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. announced the program on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and it will begin in spring 2026 at SUNY Canton and other select campuses, before expanding to all SUNY campuses in fall 2026. The special rate removes a longstanding financial barrier for service members pursuing higher education.

“As part of SUNY’s ongoing efforts to honor those who serve, we are taking action for active-duty members today,” said Chancellor King. “With the new military tuition rate, SUNY is removing barriers and making sure cost is never what stands between service members and their education.”
SUNY Canton announced that it would offer fee scholarships for servicemembers on July 8, in a precursor to the SUNY-wide initiative. Together, both programs further strengthen the college’s reputation as one of the most military-friendly campuses in the nation.
“The Military Tuition Rate Program reflects our college’s deep commitment to supporting those who serve in our armed forces,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “It is the latest in a series of strategies to remove financial barriers and expand access to a high-quality SUNY Canton education, and it deepens our commitment to being a military-friendly college.”
Other opportunities for active-duty military members include priority registration, academic credit for military experience, and personalized support through the Office of Military and Veteran Services, according to Director of Military Connected Benefits and Recruitment Patrick S. Massaro.
“Our service members deserve affordable, accessible pathways to higher education,” said Massaro. “Between SUNY’s tuition initiative and Canton’s fee scholarship, we’re proud to offer one of the most complete packages of military education benefits in the SUNY system.”
