SUNY Canton Sets Summer Session Enrollment Record

Published:

SUNY Canton has set an all-time enrollment record for its popular online Summer Session.

The college recorded 2,066 enrollments, surpassing its previous high of 2,003 enrollments in 2018.

This upward trend is partially due to the expansion of a summer start opportunity for new and transfer students. Several academic programs, such as Applied Psychology, Cybersecurity, Early Childhood Care and Management, Early Childhood Studies, and Healthcare Management, now have this option.

“We’re seeing an increased interest in the flexibility a summer start program offers,” said SUNY Canton Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Peggy A. De Cooke. “More and more students are eager to begin their studies as soon as possible and pace their education at a rate that is most convenient for them.”

De Cooke added that applications for summer start increased by nearly 50% in the past year, noting its convenience for all types of learners: traditional, non-traditional, part-time and military-connected.

The term, which began May 29 and concluded Aug. 13, offered more than 150 online courses in a range of topics, including art, management, law, economics and history. Those looking to explore more unique subjects could enroll in the popular “Comic Books as Literature” course, which examines the similarity between superhero comic books and graphic novels to other forms of fiction.

SUNY Canton’s Summer Session is open to anyone, and a large contingent of students from other SUNYs, as well as private universities, consistently utilize the college’s course offerings year after year and transfer the credit back to their home institution.

In addition to Summer Session, SUNY Canton also offers an online session between fall and spring semesters, called Winterterm, which will begin Wednesday, Dec. 17 and conclude Thursday, Jan. 15.
