New Ideas, New Technology

The GMMD program integrates course from Information technology, Game Design and Development, and Digital Communication and Storytelling to create individually tailored blends to craft competitive designers who can make thoughtful choices about tool use while maintaining the essential human element of design.

Human-Centered Design

SUNY Canton’s GMMD program remains committed to the idea that design is for humans by humans. The studio course offerings (ARTS and GMMD) will develop your fabrication and illustration skills, honing your ability to craft your creative visions into reality. Modern designers must be well grounded in historical perspectives and concepts of design as well as contemporary skills; our courses in art history, film history, and media studies, as well as our studio courses, will connect you with centuries of human expression. Our courses in communications, cultural theory, and pre-professionalization will encourage fluent, ethical, and professional expression. Our well rounded graduates can acknowledge and exceed the emergence of AI design, keeping them marketable and soulful amidst the latest trends in automation.

Real-World Opportunities

Our curriculum is project-based, with an emphasis on learning and understanding the production standards that make designs ready for the real world. In addition to class projects, students also have the opportunity to pursue an on-the-job internship. All students will have the opportunity to plan, fabricate, and display a semester long final project that will be central in their exit portfolio.
