Housing Assignments and Residence Hall Move-In Day FAQ
How do I apply for housing?
- New Students: Once you have paid your enrollment and housing deposits, new students apply for housing by logging into UCanWeb and completing the On-Campus form. To access the form/survey, navigate your way to UCanWeb > My Required Surveys > On Campus Housing.
- Returning Students: Please apply using the Housing Application.
When will housing assignments be posted to UCanWeb?
Housing assignments are posted to UCanWeb in early July (for fall semesters), and in early January (for spring semesters). Navigate your way to UCanWeb > Enter Secure Area > Student Menu > Residence Life > View Housing Assignment.
Where do I go to view my housing assignment and roommate information?
When your assignment has been posted, you will be able to see your building and room number along with roommate information. To get your housing assignment you will log into UCanWeb, go to the Residence Life section, and then click on View Assignment.
Why can’t I see my room assignment yet?
The room assignments are manually entered into our system. Some students will see their assignments before others; please be patient. If you just applied for housing, it takes about one week to get a housing assignment. If you applied for housing weeks ago and don’t have a housing assignment, you should probably e-mail us at reslife@canton.edu from your Canton email.
Why didn’t I get exactly the room/theme I asked for?
Housing is assigned mostly based on the date you submitted your housing application. For example, you are more likely to receive your first Fall semester choice of housing theme if you submitted in January than if you submitted in May. However, even early applicants can end up in a different theme because we run out of space in their preferred theme.
Why didn’t I get the roommate I requested?
If you requested a specific person as a roommate and he/she is not listed as your roommate it is probably because he/she didn’t request you as a roommate or the roommate request was late.
Can I get into Kennedy Hall?
Short answer: not yet. Kennedy Hall is very popular; we have numerous student requests to live in the building but limited space. Keep in mind that most students are able to get into Kennedy Hall after their first or second year at the college. The Residence Hall Director in Kennedy Hall will start a new waiting list once the semester begins.
Did I get into the Esports Wing?
If you have a housing assignment in the east wing of Heritage Hall, you are in the Esports Wing. The Esports Wing loft beds are accessed using a ladder and they are really close to the ceiling. If you are not comfortable using a ladder, or sleeping close to the ceiling, please let us know and we can relocate you to a different room/area.
Why didn’t I get into the Esports Wing?
Esports Wing space is limited. We had way more students request the new Esports Wing than we had spaces. Unfortunately, we were unable to get every student who wanted the Esports Wing into that theme. The Residence Hall Director of Heritage Hall will create a wait list for the Esports Wing once the semester begins.
Why don’t I have roommates listed?
If you don’t have roommates listed it is because there is still open space in your room. When the space is filled your roommate’s name will appear on your UCanWeb account.
Do you have any open single rooms available?
Short answer: not yet. However, spaces often become available during the academic year. Your Residence Hall Director will create a wait list for single rooms once the semester begins.
Why am I in a theme I didn’t request?
You may find you are in a themed area you didn’t request. This is typically because we didn’t have many students request that theme and therefore had to place other students into the area. Please understand there are no required activities related to a theme; it’s just to get students with similar interests together in one area.
Are there going to be triple rooms this year?
No, all of our students are in either double rooms, single rooms, or single bedrooms within a suite.
Is my room a single room?
If you do not currently have a roommate assigned, you are currently in a single room. However, you may be assigned a roommate at any time between now and the beginning of the semester. The majority of our students end up in single rooms, but we do not have enough space to offer single rooms to every student. All bedrooms in Kennedy Hall are single bedrooms within a shared suite.
Can I change my room?
Short answer: not yet. Room assignment changes are not allowed between now and the third week of classes. After the second week of classes, students can seek permission from their Residence Hall Director to switch rooms. More than likely if you decide to move once the semester starts, you are going to want to find another student who wants to switch rooms and swap with that person.
Where can I find out more about my room/building?
You can learn about each building here: Residence Halls
