Withdrawal Liability

Withdrawing from the college is a serious decision and should not be taken lightly. Before you withdraw officially, you will have to consult with your Dean, advisor, the counseling center, and a financial aid advisor. Withdrawing may impact your ability to receive financial aid if you decide to return to SUNY Canton.

* Accident and Health Insurance

All full-time SUNY Canton students are required to carry medical coverage. Students have the option to waive the insurance coverage during the first 4 weeks of the semester in which the insurance premium is charged. However, if the student withdrawals, a reduction for the insurance charge will only occur during the first week of classes unless the student is entering military service. Failure to waive the insurance coverage will result in the charge remaining on the students bill for the full semester. Any student withdrawing during the first 31 days of the period for which coverage was purchased, will remain covered, unless the withdrawal was done during the first week of class in which the premium would have been refunded resulting in loss of coverage. In cases of medical withdrawal due to a covered injury or sickness in the first 31 days, the full amount of the premium is eligible for refund. However, the student does have the option to keep the medical insurance. In this case, the fee would remain on the bill and the student would be responsible for payment. No waiver exceptions can be granted.

* Parking Fee

A student who officially withdraws from college or chooses NOT to continue to make use of campus parking may be eligible to receive a parking fee refund depending on the date of their withdrawal. The registration fee is non-refundable. Students who do not return for the semester may request a refund for that portion until the end of the 4th week of the semester*. All parking refunds will be made in accordance with applicable Federal Title IV regulation and/or SUNY policies in the same percentage as tuition. The parking tag must be re-turned to the Student Service Center in order to be eligible for a refund. (Please note the “Fees” reduction of cost chart above). All parking refunds will be made in accordance with applicable Federal Title IV regulation and/or SUNY policies in the same percentage as tuition. The parking tag must be returned to the Student Service Center in order to be eligible for a refund.

Housing charges are refunded on a percentage basis as follows:

The refund will be based on the point value of the meal plan less a 15% fee for processing and administration charges when the refund is approved and the check is drawn. The refund will be based on the official date of withdrawal or dismissal as recorded by the Student Service Center.

Students who advance register, but who do not subsequently attend the College, will receive a full refund of their entire dining meal plan payment. Transfers of funds from one student's account to that of another student are not permitted.
